Daintree National Park Draft Management Plan

Have your say on the future management of Daintree National Park.

Daintree National Park is one of Queensland’s iconic parks. It is part of the largest tropical rainforest areas in Australia and one of the country’s most biologically diverse parks. The park is within the significant tourism region of Cairns and has outstanding scenic amenity—it is internationally valued for its spectacular scenery and diverse range of ecosystems, plants and animals.

The plan identifies nine key values for management focus:

  1. Yalanji Indigenous cultural values of the national park and surrounds

    Manjal (mountains)
  2. Montane and upland forests
  3. Tall open forests

    Wuburr (hills and valleys)
  4. Madja (rainforest)

    Yalmba (coast)
  5. Aesthetic value
  6. Yalanji coastal values

    Wawubaja, yilki, yiri (rivers, creeks and waterways)
  7. Wawubaja, yilki, yiri (rivers, creeks and waterfalls)
  8. Mangurru (mangroves)
  9. Sustainable tourism

Members of the community are encouraged to review and put forward their submission to the Minister. All submissions will be considered when preparing the final management plan.

The closing date for submissions is 10 November 2017.

What to include in your submission

All submissions will be carefully reviewed against set criteria. To ensure your submission is effective, be clear and concise and include the following:

  • Planning document's name
  • Page number, paragraph, key value, level of service and/or the strategic management direction you are commenting on
  • The aspects you support, or do not support, and reason for this position
  • Suggested changes with supporting references, data and/or information

Any submission that is based on inaccurate information, provides an open ended statement that is intangible, or is outside the scope of the planning process, will not have influence on management decisions.

What happens to your submission

All submissions will be reviewed again set criteria. Upon finalisation of the plan, a submissions analysis document will be released that details the comments raised, the department's response to those comments, and the final outcomes. All submissions are recorded and will be available as part of the public record, upon request.
