Environmental Protection (Water) Policy – proposed changes

Have your say on the draft environmental values and water quality objectives for Queensland waters. This work is being undertaken under the Environmental Protection (Water) Policy 2009.

Project waters include Great Barrier Reef coastal waters and contributing catchments, Queensland Murray-Darling and Bulloo Basin waters, and South East Queensland waters.

Consultation documents, including draft environmental values, water quality objectives (based on technical guidelines) and aquatic ecosystem mapping have been released for public comment for specified Great Barrier Reef, South East Queensland and Queensland Murray-Darling and Bulloo Basins.

All documents and  submission closing date details are available from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) website.

Further information will be released when available for groundwaters (Fitzroy, Burdekin basins) and Wet Tropics waters. Please refer to Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) for more details, including submission closing dates.

Environmental values and water quality objectives are considered in statutory planning and decision-making for development approvals and environmental authorities under the Environmental Protection Act 1994, and certain approvals under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009.

They also inform non-statutory water quality planning and decision-making.

Written submissions
