Action on Ice - The draft plan to address use and harms caused by crystal methamphetamine

The Queensland Government is committed to tackling the harmful use and effects of ice in our community and is looking for your feedback on how to address the problem.

To better appreciate the impacts of ice and understand specific community needs, particularly in regional and rural Queensland, the government released the draft Action on Ice to invite community input prior to the document’s finalisation. The document outlines current activities across all government agencies to address the harm caused by ice use in Queensland.

We are keen to get community views about:

  • the effectiveness of the implementation arrangements for existing initiatives outlined in the draft plan
  • how the government can support community-led initiatives to tackle ice
  • any potential gaps in the proposed response.

The draft action plan informs Queenslanders about ice and its impacts on the individual, families, front line service providers and the community. It places ice within the broader context of responding to alcohol and other drugs and has a focus on reducing supply (primarily through law enforcement activity), reducing demand (through prevention, early intervention and treatment) and minimising harm (through specialised programs, services and initiatives).

Action on Ice has been informed by the outcomes from the discussion paper: Ways to Combat Ice Addiction in Queensland, which was released in September 2015; and the findings of the National Ice Taskforce.

It also complements the National Ice Action Strategy, endorsed by the Council of Australian Governments on 11 December 2015.

Note: If you are concerned about your own or someone else’s drug use, visit or contact the Alcohol and Drug Information Service on 1800 177 833.
