Action on Ice - The draft plan to address use and harms caused by crystal methamphetamine

The Queensland Government is committed to tackling the harmful use and effects of ice in our community.

This draft action plan Action on Ice (PDF, 3MB) outlines current activities across all government agencies to address the harms caused by ice use in Queensland. It has been informed by the outcomes from the discussion paper: Ways to Combat Ice Addiction in Queensland which was released in September 2015, and the findings of the National Ice Taskforce.

Action on Ice also complements the National Ice Action Strategy, endorsed by the Council of Australian Governments on 11 December 2015.

Action on Ice informs Queenslanders about ice and its impacts on the individual, families, front line service providers and the community. It places ice within the broader context of responding to alcohol and other drugs and has a focus on reducing supply (primarily through law enforcement activity), reducing demand (through prevention, early intervention and treatment) and minimising harm (through specialised programs, services and initiatives).

To better appreciate the impacts of ice and understand specific community needs, particularly in regional and rural Queensland, the Government is releasing Action on Ice as a draft document to further engage with Queenslanders prior to its finalisation.

Government is keen to obtain views about how effective implementation arrangements are for existing initiatives outlined in the draft plan; how government can support community-led initiatives to tackle ice; and any potential gaps in the proposed response.

Note: If you are concerned about your own or someone else’s drug use, visit www.qld.gov.au/ice or contact the Alcohol and Drug Information Service on 1800 177 833.
