Community engagement research
Quality research and evaluation are essential to build an evidence base for good policy and practice in community engagement.
Community engagement research in Queensland is undertaken within tertiary institutions and by government and non-government agencies.
A dedicated Strategic Evidence Branch in the Strategic Policy Directorate of the Department of Communities supports a range of research initiatives. These initiatives contribute to community engagement policy development and review and seek to identify ways to improve community engagement practice.
The department's research activities are guided by a research strategy and priority program.
The strategy:
- sets out the key areas and objectives for community research for the Queensland Government
- identifies research priorities and principles
- is focused on applied and action research.
Projects and publications from the Strategic Evidence Branch include:
- INSPIRE - a monthly update on community engagement research and initiatives
- evaluation of community engagement activities
- information management and knowledge sharing, including the Engaging ideas speakers series
- online engagement research
- conference support.
