Engaged Government Project

In 2002, the departments of Natural Resources and Mines, Main Roads, Queensland Transport and Premier and Cabinet jointly funded the Engaged Government Project as a scoping study, to investigate the barriers and enabling factors related to government-community engagement for better regional outcomes. The project had a focus on joined-up engagement and an emphasis on regional programs.

An outcome of the project was a successful application to the Australian Research Council Linkage Grant program, applied for by the departments of Main Roads, Transport, Natural Resources and Mines, together with the Local Government Association of Queensland, the University of Queensland, Central Queensland University and Griffith University. This three-year project will trial strategies to overcome the barriers to working across Government, particularly in the area of community engagement.
