Community Engagement Improvement Strategy

The Queensland Government actively encourages Queenslanders to get involved in government processes and decision-making activities. Valuable input from the community helps to set priorities and ensure that the government stays in touch with what Queenslanders want.

To support increasing community involvement, the government's Community Engagement & Development Policy Unit (previously in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, now the Department of Communities) worked with all departments and agencies to develop the Community Engagement Improvement Strategy.

The Improvement Strategy supports those who work in the public sector to develop and implement effective programs and activities that engage the public. It provides resources and tools, and highlights examples of good community engagement practices.

The Improvement Strategy aims to improve the coordination of community engagement across Queensland Government departments, and build skills, knowledge and leadership in various aspects of community engagement.

Through a coordinated and staged approach, the Community Engagement & Development Policy Unit is leading the implementation of the various Improvement Strategy initiatives. In all initiatives, the focus is on:

The Statement reflects the leading role that the Department of Communities plays in providing community engagement leadership and direction for Queensland public sector agencies.
