Notifiable work—cutting the red tape for the plumbing and drainage approval process

The consultation period is now closed and responses are being considered.

  • The plumbing and drainage approval process in Queensland is being changed to cut costs and red tape for consumers, plumbers and local governments. The proposed changes will include updating the Standard Plumbing and Drainage Regulation 2003 (SPDR) to specify the scope of each category of plumbing and drainage work. These amendments will include the introduction of a new category of work known as notifiable work.

The revised SPDR schedules will expand the amount of work that can begin without the need for a local government permit or mandatory inspections. While permits and inspections of notifiable work and minor work are not required, the work must still be performed by a person with an appropriate Plumbing Industry Council (PIC) licence.

Building Codes Queensland has released for consultation the draft tables outlining the proposed notifiable, minor and unregulated categories of work.

Have your say on this policy and the final make-up of what will be classified as notifiable work.
