Community engagement and the Queensland Government
Community engagement refers to the many ways in which government connects with citizens and the community to develop and implement policies and programs to meet community needs. Here are some of the ways that government connects with the community:
- information is provided through letters, brochures, discussion papers or other information material
- Public meetings and workshops are held to seek the views of interest individuals or groups
- Committees, forums and boards meet to advise government on specific issues
- online opportunities are provided for communicating and seeking feedback.
In addition, the Queensland Government conducts Community Cabinet meetings and has held its first regional sitting of Parliament.
The Queensland Government encourages individuals, groups and communities to be involved in the business of government. It recognises that Queenslanders have diverse opinions, innovative ideas and a wealth of life experience - and this information allows government to better understand issues and provide services that are tailored to community needs.
To encourage government agencies a special Premier's Award for Excellence in Public Sector Management is presented for Community Engagement.
